It depends what kind of orbs you're talking about. Photographic orbs are believed to be dust/moisture on the lens, video'd orbs are believed to again be dust particles moving about. However, orbs seen by the naked eye are more debatable. Possible theories include ball lightning, swamp gas and many others.
Personally I'm no expert on orbs, this is just information I've picked up from various sources. I've experienced the photographic type a few times (seems to be more prevalent with digital cameras than the older style) but I've never experienced any with the naked eye. I'm discounting visual flashes and floaters which I suffer from a lot as they have a medical explanation (low blood pressure in my case)
Edit: just to clarify, my opinion on orbs is natural phenomena given a paranormal explanation _________________ Great websites to visit:

I'm willing to believe the dust partical and glare explanations... to a degree. I have actually recorded and studies footage with an ever-critical eye of orbs in all sorts of situations. When I look at most footage caught by different sources, I believe them to be orbs.
The first picture my wife sent me online had an orb in it... What I found upon magnifying it intensly was no ordanary light phenomena...
Note it's form. It does not conform to your average night fragment. It has the shape of an Orb. A head, with a tail.
This does not occur anywhere again on her jacket, or anywhere in the picture again. _________________ The Black Hole Website

That's an interesting photo, unlike any orb pic I've seen lol
I do have a series of photos of my son playing the playstation with orbs in them. Well, two, not exactly a series but in those two there's an orb which appears to stay in the same place although the photos are taken a few minutes apart. I'm undecided on whether it's natural/paranormal but it does seem a little weird. Unfortunately the photos are on my laptop hard drive, the laptop tok offence to a drink of coffee on Christmas Eve so I can't access the hard drive yet. I'm hoping to get an ide cable which will piggyback the hard drive to this pc soonish though. _________________ Great websites to visit:

It looks like a dust speck, but it's actually right in front of my son. He's lying down on a beanbag playing the playstation. I think I may have a copy on the main server pc, let me have a look.
Edit: here we go!
First, the originals (all I've done is put a circle to show where it is, I can post the uncircled originals if you wish)
I've cropped them here:
I'm of the opinion it's dust, but it does seem a little strange that it's in the ame place (in relation to the fire etc) in both. You can see they were taken with a gap of time between them. _________________ Great websites to visit:

Upon further inspection.... these don't look anything like dust particles.
The evidence is conclusive in my opinion, that there is an orb in these pictures.
But I understand your disbelief. Even after watching this documentary by Graham Hancock about our civilization reaching back to 10,500AD, my wife was in disbelief and refused to buy it because it went against what she was taught as reality.
But if I were you... I'd seriously consider buying this one. _________________ The Black Hole Website

hrmm i saw a documentary on orbs some time last year but im relativley unconvinced.. an outline of light on photos of a womans dead husband was found to be just dust and a house supposedly "haunted" by them was just dust and odd light patterns |

I'd buy that... if the forms weren't so damned consistent. Too many coincidences.
